Obituary- Vivian Stronach
In Loving Memory of Vivian Stronach
July 5, 1935 ~ August 3, 2023 (age 88)
Vivian Stronach, a long-time resident of Oxtongue Lake, passed away peacefully on August 3rd, one month after celebrating her 88th birthday at Huntsville Hospital. Born in Toronto, she grew up in East York and met her soulmate, Bob Stronach, through a mutual friend. They embarked on their journey in life together early and were blessed with five children. Vivian and Bob instilled in their family the values of empathy, a love of nature, resourcefulness, and the art of listening to one another. Their loving children are Ken Stronach (Barb), Anne Marie Switzer (Paul], Theresa Teixeira (Michael), Michelle Stronach (Greg Lashbrook) and Bob Stronach (Asako).
The couple shared a passion for dancing and would light up any party they attended. As soon as the music started, they would take to the floor, ruling it with their lively Jive moves. They were inseparable, and even after Bob's passing, Vivian believed he was still by her side. They cherished each other for 46 years.
Vivian had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel. With Bob, she explored the Caribbean during spring breaks. After his passing, she spread her wings, planning winters in various destinations such as Florida, Cuba, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia, and Italy.
Her impact on everyone she encountered was profound and immeasurable. Vivian's love for her family knew no bounds, and she selflessly gave back to them in countless ways. Her great-grandson Ben beautifully expressed, "I will miss you forever." She was adored by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who are Susan Stronach (Dan Wark), Dawn Marvin (Dan Kramer), Eric Switzer (Jessica Farber), Tom Switzer (Amanda), Steven Stronach (Jenn Beherends), Savannah Lashbrook (Cody MacKinnon), James Lashbrook (Kristyn), Ciara Teixeira, Ashley Teixeira, and Lucca Stronach. Vivian cherished her great-grandchildren, Izzy Switzer, Georgia Wark, Ben Switzer, Josh Kramer, Sophie Kramer, and Lily Switzer.
Vivian and her family have been an integral part of Oxtongue since 1967. She and Bob spent many summers at the lake and in retirement (1995] moved there permanently.. When her children were small, she ran the Oxtongue Lake Swim races. Her home was always open to all. There was always a warm meal and good company.
An artist at heart, Vivian loved to paint with watercolors. Her talent was discovered at an early age when she was invited to attend the first of its kind art class led by Arthur Lismer at the AGO. She later ran an art group at the Dwight Seniors Club, sharing her passion with others. Vivian's artwork adorned the walls of her home, the homes of her friends, and was even sold locally.
She enjoyed playing cards and rarely missed a Tuesday euchre or Thursday bid euchre gathering. Vivian was an active member of Stewart Memorial United Church in Dwight and the Dwight Lions club.
Though born in Toronto, Vivian considered Oxtongue her true home. When her eyesight began to fail, she sold her beloved home on the lake and moved to Huntsville. Her love for the area was passed on to her children, as most of them have homes or cottages in the area.
Vivian Stronach leaves behind a legacy of love, joy, and kindness. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have known her. A memorial service will be held at Stewart Memorial United Church to honor her memory on August 26 at 11:00 and as per her wishes followed by a party for friends and family..
May she rest in eternal peace, forever dancing with her beloved Bob.

Passed away peacefully, after a short illness, at the Huntsville District Memorial Hospital on Friday, March 24, 2023, with her family at her side, in her 92nd year. Beloved wife of the late Ross Rabjohn who predeceased Stephanie on Sunday, February 7, 2021. Cherished mother of Chris, Jeff and Jane. Proud grandmother of Scott, Melissa, Alex, Grayson, Chrissy and Alicia. Great-grandmother of Charlotte, Madeline, Sophie, Paul, Mackenzie and Myra. Dear sister of Malcolm and the late Barbara. Stephanie will be dearly missed by her nieces, nephews, extended family and church family.
A celebration of life will take place at the parquette in Dorset in the summer. Interment to follow where Stephanie will be laid to rest beside Ross at Paint Lake Cemetery. Paul Joseph Hutchison
The death occurred at Algonquin Grace Hospice, Huntsville on Sunday, October 16, 2022. Paul Joseph Hutchison was born on June 26, 1928, in Chatham, Ontario to parents Miff and Laura Hutchison.
During his growing up years, Paul lived in Chatham, Brantford, Haileybury, Ottawa and Toronto. After receiving his degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1952 from the University of Toronto, Paul was hired by Honeywell. He worked for this company until retirement in 1990.
While the Hutchison’s were living in Chatham, they became close friends of Harold and Jean Smith. It was through this friendship that Paul met the Smith’s daughter Barbara. Paul and Barbara both loved Muskoka. It was while Paul visited his uncle Frank Marshall on Peninsula Lake near Huntsville, and Barbara was a camp counselor near Dorset, that they had time together. They decided this was for life!
They were married in Chatham in 1957. During the next decade, Paul and Barbara became parents to
Brian, Anne, Doug, and Jim. They lived in Don Mills.
In 1961 Paul and Barbara bought a cottage on Peninsula Lake within sight of Uncle Frank’s cottage. They had many happy holidays there until 1990 when they came to live there permanently.
Brian, Anne, Doug, and Jim brought great joy to Paul. When Brian and Anne died it was a devastating loss. Doug married Debra Ellison and they have a daughter Sarah. Paul enjoyed watching Sarah grow up as she lived nearby.
James married Luck Thaweesuk from Thailand. They have two girls, Pailin and Pimmy. All three granddaughters were a source of pride to Paul.
Paul has always had a fascination for trains. When the “Portage Flyer” the historical train that in former days ran between Lake of Bays and Peninsula Lake, came back to Huntsville’s Pioneer Village, Paul studied harder than he had ever studied before to qualify to become an engineer on it. He loved every minute on this train.
In retirement Paul became active in the Peninsula Lake Association. He attended Lake of Bays Council meetings, reporting back what would be of interest. He was also a Trustee at Pioneer Memorial United Church Memorial Church, Hillside.
A private family memorial service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Algonquin Grace Hospice, Huntsville.

CHRISTIE, Robert George
Passed away peacefully at Algonquin Grace Residential Hospice on Tuesday, September 13th, with his family by his side at the age of 94. Devoted husband of Hazel Christie. Loving father of Paul (Kathy) Christie, Anne Christie, and Gaye (Mark) McLennan. Grandfather of Sean (Alli) Christie, Taryn (Shannon) Gray, Kira Christie (Mitch), Connor Ives, Lucas and Zac McLennan. Great grandfather of Cadence Gray and Sawyer and Rey Christie.
Bob taught biology at Brampton High and Brampton Centennial Secondary School (1967-1986) for 30 years. Member of Kiwanis Club of Buffy’s Corners, he was secretary for many years and volunteered for many charities; MS, CNIB, and Heart & Stroke. In his later years he was the Treasurer for Knox United Church in Dorset. He spent many wonderful years enjoying his family at his residence on Paint Lake and pursuing his love of photography.
Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to the funeral service on Monday, September 19, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Billingsley Funeral Home, reception to follow. As an expression of sympathy memorial donations can be made to Knox United Church in Dorset and Hospice Huntsville.

A member of theTall Pines Snowmobile Club, member of the Order of the Eastern Starand canvasser for the Heart & Stroke Foundation and the CanadianCancer Society for over 35 years. She also served with the Wrens duringWorld War 2, joining up when she was 18. Ernest (Ernie) Martin 1931-2022Peacefully at Muskoka Landing on Sunday, March 6, 2022, Ernie passed away just short of his 91st birthday. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 69 years, Jeanette June (nee Smusiak). Loving father of Donna (Rick) Sidey, Debbie (Steve) Bradley and Dianne (John) Terry. Cherished grandfather of Pamela (Patrick), Alexandra, Richard, Stefanie, Dustin (Nicole), Chris (Chelsey), Caitlin and great grandfather to Teddy, Willa, Riley, Leah, Mya and Brooks. Dear brother of Donald, Gordon and Patricia, and predeceased by his siblings Bill, Jack, Lillian and Edith.Ernie was active in the community and nothing made him happier than to make people laugh with his jokes. He spent many years active in stock car racing and announcing (CNE, Pinecrest, Sunset and Barrie Speedways), snowmobiling, and restoring his prized ’56 Meteor Niagara. Over the years Ernie also came to love watching his grandchildren play hockey and cheering them on in the rinks.Ernie had a long career at The Toronto Star, retiring after 25 years as a Circulation Manager.Formerly of Brampton, Ernie was involved in the community, serving as Alderman in the inaugural years of the City of Brampton council and also on the Brampton Hydro Commission. Ernie was proud of his active involvement over many years with Big Brothers of Peel.After spending 25 years at the family cottage on Lake of Bays in Dwight, Ernie retired there and continued with extensive involvement in the community. He continued to be an active driver for the Canadian Cancer Society. He was passionate about running snowmobile drag races and Kitty Kat rides at the local Dwight and Dorset Winter Carnivals. He was delighted to have his grandchildren play for Martin’s Meteors in the Dwight Minor Baseball League. It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Margaret Meredith (Sanderson) announce her passing in her 93rd year on February 20th, 2022 at Hospice Huntsville. Mary had been struggling the past few months with congestive heart failure, and her death ended that suffering.
Mary is survived by her sister, Betty (Don) Walker. Predeceased by her husband, David Meredith in 1994. Mary leaves behind her daughter, Lynda Melnyk, and sons, Lloyd (Jan) and Jim (Colleen) Meredith. Predeceased by son-in-law Bernie Melnyk. Mary was blessed with 10 grandchildren, all of whom will miss her greatly: Chris (Amanda), Mark (Amanda), Katryna (John), Jay (Steve), Bobbi (Todd), Brooke (Matt), Tori, Georgie (Graeme), Teagan (Madi), and Kyra, in addition to 6 great-grandchildren: Mykola, MaryAnn, Arwyn, Mackenzie, Griffin, and Maeve. Predeceased by great grandson, Gavin. Mary also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins, who will remember Auntie Mary’s love, sense of humour and laughter.
Mary was born in Toronto on December 16, 1929 to Percy & Babe Sanderson. She married Dave in July of 1952 in Toronto, and raised their 3 children in Rexdale. Mary founded the Rexdale lacrosse Women’s Auxiliary and often talked of her neighbours on the street and their morning coffee dates.
In 1968, Mary and Dave bought Walker’s Lake Lodge and moved their family to Huntsville.
Mary was an extremely hard worker. After her retirement, she had more time for her many hobbies and participation in organizations close to her heart. It was often difficult to keep track of what Mary was doing on any given day, as she seemed more busy during retirement than in her working years. She was a member of the Huntsville Hospital Auxiliary, where she styled the hair of patients. Mary received the Ontario Volunteer Service Award in 2011 in honour of her dedication to the Auxiliary, and was granted a Lifetime Membership in the Hospital Auxiliary Association of Ontario in 2010. Mary was also an active member of the Pioneer Memorial United Church in Hillside, where she was a member of the community and UCC.

Mary also tore up the lanes in her Seniors’ Bowling League and was an accomplished card player. She loved her Euchre games with her friends Marilyn, Bea, and Kay. Mary was the keeper of the history of her family.
Mary also loved to craft, and was gifted in her ability to create knitted and crocheted heirlooms for her family and friends. Mary made many keepsake pieces for her family to mark important life events that will be forever cherished. Soon after the birth of her first grandchild, Mary began the family tradition of crafting a handmade Christmas ornament each year for each of her grandchildren. This continued for the next 43 years. Once Mary reached her ninetieth year, she attempted to discontinue the tradition, stating that she was “too old” to carry on, however new ornaments continued to be given for the next two years.
Mary passed from this life surrounded by the love of her family, with her children and grandchildren at her side. We would like to express our gratitude for the care provided by her son, Jim and daughter-in-law, Colleen during Mary’s later years. We would like to thank her neighbours, especially Linda & Pat Russell. Lynda, Lloyd and Jim would also like to give a special thank you to Georgie for opening her home and taking such loving and compassionate care of Mary over the last 2 months until her passing. They are also greatly appreciative of the support Georgie received from Bobbi, Kyra and Jay in assisting with Mom’s care. Appreciation is also extended to Lynda West for providing Mary with such warmth and compassion in her later years and while in hospital. Many thanks also to the LHIN HCC palliative care team, including Norma, Sarah, Paula and Dr. Mathies and Harrold. We would like to thank the team at Hospice Huntsville for making the last few moments of her life peaceful and graceful, we appreciate the care and compassion you showed her during her final moments.
Visitation will be held on Thursday February 24, 2022 between 2-4pm at Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 High Street, Huntsville. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Huntsville Hospital Auxiliary or the Pioneer Memorial United Church.
Masks must be worn to enter the funeral home. A receiving line will be formed to speak with the family without physical contact and long delays.
Marion Dorothy Jensen - Obituary
Passed away peacefully on January 28th, 2022 at the Huntsville District Memorial Hospital at the age of 82. Born on May 28, 1939 in Dwight, Ontario to parents William and Dorothy (nee Robertson) Sluman. Marion married Paul Jensen in Dwight, Ontario on September 30th, 1961 and would spend the next 60 years together filled with much love, a lot of laughter and some tears. She is the cherished mother of Stephen and Suzanne (Shawn) Graham. Proud grandmother of Scott (Natasha) Graham, Cameron (Brittany) Graham and Hunter Graham. November 30, 1932 - August 17, 2021
With profound sadness, the family of Emma Barber announces her peaceful passing on August 17, 2021 in her 89th year. Loving wife of the late Harold “Si” Barber (2010). Dear mother of Victoria St. John (Steven), Terry Barber, Kelly Barber (Erika), Craig Barber (Judy) and Alison McCann (Alexx). Cherished grandma of Kelly (Tennille), Erin, Hillary (Eric), Rachel, Adrian (Jenna) and Krista (Dan). Loving great grandma to Landen, Makinley, Ryerson, A.J., Charlie, Leo and Amelia. She is also survived by her sisters Lillian Gray (R.J.) and Carolyn Caughill. Predeceased by her siblings Marion, Norma, Doris, Donald and Bob. Our Mom was a strong willed and independent woman who loved her family. She loved travelling, knitting, crocheting, her gardens, and enjoyed her years at the cottage on Harp Lake. Mom’s creative knitting talents were appreciated by many. She was also a dedicated employee for 31 years at Bell Canada. The family is very grateful for the wonderful care given at West Haldimand General Hospital and the Palliative Unit at Brantford General Hospital. Visitation will be held at Ferris Funeral Home, 214 Norfolk St. S., Simcoe on Thursday, August 26, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a service in the funeral home at 12:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Cremation has taken place. All guests must practice physical distancing and wear a face covering. Due to capacity restrictions, guests may be required to wait.
